Update 0.14.0 - Devlog 2 - Upgrade NPC Sight


Keeping up with the roughly weekly updates~


Still working on the dialogue system. Got some stuff trying to figure out but looking good so far.


Started of with just wanting to have npc to talk to each other and player to talk to npc. But realised that there are way more than need to be done.


For npc to npc interaction to work, I need to get the detection (sight) system working as well as conditions for the interactions, logics, UI, etc. So this will take a bit longer. But quite fun and exciting working on it.


For something to show, I recently upgraded the NPCs' basic sight system to an all improved system using raycastPro.


NPCs now have raytraced sight detection system, able to detect objects and other NPCs.


I also created 3 segment sight system, so NPC will have:


  1. Short Range Sight distance where they can see clearly the object/NPC and will know exactly their identity.

  2. Mid Range Sight distance where they know roughly the person there and can choose whether they want to go up to them or ignore.

  3. Long Range Sight distance where NPC know vaguely that something is there and will decide whether to go there to investigate or not.


I feel this will open up alot of cool dynamic effect and events espically with light sensor implementation. (So at night harder to see). Along with sound sensor which can also detect wall thickness as well. Would be so cool!!


Thought the sound and light sensing mechanic will probably come later.


Gonna get the NPC to NPC interactions working first along with some audio speech! Super excited!
